Dr Joshua Macabuag OBE named Chief Executive of Renew Risk

Dr Joshua Macabuag, CEO at Renew Risk

18 March 2026 - Renew Risk, the leading provider of risk analytics for renewable energy assets, has named Dr Joshua Macabuag as its CEO.

As one of the company’s co-founders and previously serving as Chief Product Officer, Josh has played a central role in shaping Renew Risk since its formation in 2021. He brings deep catastrophe risk modelling and industry expertise to the role, with previous roles at several (re)insurers, The World Bank, and University College London.

Alongside his work, Josh has spent 14 years responding to major disasters around the world as a volunteer Urban Search & Rescue Engineer for SARAID – service for which he was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2025.

Under his leadership, Renew Risk will continue to champion a transformative approach to renewable energy risk management.

Renew Risk was founded on the belief that better analytics can accelerate the energy transition. I’m honoured to lead the company into its next chapter as we expand our international portfolio of natural catastrophe risk models, deepen our partnerships across the insurance and energy sectors, and build confidence in the deployment of renewable energy worldwide.
— Dr Josh Macabuag, CEO of Renew Risk

Josh’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Renew Risk, with new natural catastrophe risk models launching soon, for solar farms in the US and offshore wind farms along the UK and European coastlines. These build on our existing suite of models throughout the US, Europe and Asia, continuing to enhance our presence as the ‘one stop shop’ for risk analytics for renewables across offshore and onshore assets, for natural and manmade perils worldwide.
